Common Misconception: Popup Ads

As part of our ongoing conversation with the visitors to our web site, we felt it was important to clarify some of the common misconceptions we’ve heard and seen on the internet. Some visitors to our web site email us regarding pop-up advertisements on 123Greetings.com.

Because all of our 20,000+ cards are free, our business model requires that we generate revenue through the use of banner and pop-up/pop-under advertising. We love our advertisers because they enable us to give away cards. We love our users because they use the cards we create. Unfortunately, not all of our users love our advertisers. Eventually the pop-up ads will go the way of other technologies that are no longer useful, but at this time they are the only way we can employ the people to make the cards in order to give them away free. Help support our web site by clicking on our advertisers’ offers within our site so that we can continue to provide brand new cards each month.

Meanwhile, as some folks find these pop-ups irritating, we suggest using the software of your choice to block the pop-ups and make your card sending experience more enjoyable. The Google toolbar is widely used for effectively blocking such pop-up ads.

We hope that this solution works for you and we look forward to having you on our site more often. If we can be of any further service to you, by all means, please leave a comment.

Get a free virtual Christmas tree for your blog, profile, or other social network site. Let your friends decorate it online.

New York, NY, November 23, 2007 — 123Greetings announces the launch of a Christmas widget to celebrate the holiday season. As more and more Americans post profiles on MySpace, Yahoo 360, Blogger and other social network properties, people are looking for ways to spread holiday cheer online.

“When people come to my MySpace page or my blog, I want them to know a little bit about who I am and what’s important to me,” said Jeanne Heydecker, Marketing Group Leader for 123Greetings. “The ‘Decorate a Christmas Tree’ widget enables visitors to my page to decorate a virtual tree and while doing so, spend a moment focused on the Christmas experience. I want them to feel happy.”

The Christmas widget is one of the first scheduled to appear for a variety of holidays and special occasions. The widgets are easy to post by simply copying and pasting a snippet of code. They are available for a variety of social networks.

Ms. Heydecker went on to say, “Our widgets are essentially online toys for entertainment or for adorning a user’s personal space on the web. They help people express themselves on the web. Our mission is to be the means for our user’s expressional needs. Widgets are an extension to our more traditional free ecards.”

For additional information on 123Greetings’ “Decorate a Tree” Christmas widget, contact Jeanne Heydecker (jeanne@123greetings-inc.com) or visit http://www.123greetings.com/widgets/. The widget will be made available on the web site on November 25, 2007.
